Report on “NC3Rs Year of Laboratory Rodent Welfare”

Throughout 2017 the NC3Rs launched a number of initiatives and funded work addressing the welfare of rats and mice used in research as part of a "Year of Laboratory Rodent Welfare". This theme was chosen to highlight the welfare needs of the most common and widely used laboratory animals and to demonstrate how improvements in animal welfare can also improve the quality of scientific outputs.

The NC3Rs has produced a website timeline to document these activities and showcase the exciting work completed during 2017 – from improving rat housing and refining mouse handling techniques, to developing new home cage monitoring systems and studying mouse aggression. Visit the timeline to learn more.
