Description: The Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Food, Agriculture, and
Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University seeks to employ a 9-month, tenure-track faculty
member at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank in Animal Welfare to begin in spring 2020 or
when a suitable candidate is found. This position will have an Extension emphasis, and the responsibility of
teaching an animal behavior and welfare course and providing guest lectures in other courses as
appropriate. The anticipated position split will be 65% Extension and 35% teaching. Although there is no
formal research appointment, the individual is expected to collaborate with other faculty for engaging in
Animal herds and flocks are available in Columbus, Wooster, and research branch stations to support
programs, and a computer-based lab will be provided to support the program.

Expectations: The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the educational mission of the
Department through outreach education and teaching of undergraduate courses. Candidates will be
expected to develop and maintain an independent, extramurally funded Extension program that focuses
on relevant issues in the agricultural industry. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate
with other faculty for engagement in research relating to animal behavior/welfare. They will also be
expected to collaborate with current faculty to continue pursuing common themes within the
Department such as enhancing animal welfare, working with industry stakeholders in educating and
determining the impacts of implementing animal welfare measures and enhancing the economic
profitability of food animal production systems.

Qualifications: Requirements include a Ph.D. in Animal Science, or a closely related field. Demonstrated
commitment to outreach and academic teaching and innovative research.
Applicants must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills in addition to the ability and desire
to collaborate with others in a collegial team environment. Leadership and academic excellence should
be evident in the application. Industry experience is desirable. Preferred Qualifications: Experience
developing or working in interdisciplinary teams and experience in mentoring members of
underrepresented groups.
