Bristol Cats Study Research Co-ordinator

Bristol Veterinary School is seeking to appoint a full time Research Co-ordinator, with experience in research administration, to work with Dr Emily Blackwell and the research team on the ‘Bristol Cats’ longitudinal cohort study. (http://www.bristol.ac.uk/vetscience/research/projects/cats/).

The Bristol Cats Study is a birth cohort study of UK pet cats that were registered by their owners (June 2010-December 2013). The study is run by a team of researchers at the University of Bristol (UoB), led by Dr Emily Blackwell and integrates well with the Vet School’s clinical research. Data are collected using owner-completed questionnaires when cats reach specified ages (6m, 12m, 18m, 2.5yr, 4yr, and annually thereafter). Additional data (body condition score, oral health score) are provided by veterinarians, and collected and returned by owners of study cats on an annual basis. Clinical notes are also being retrieved from veterinary practices where study cats are registered. A total of 2444 kittens were recruited nine years ago, and thanks to the brilliant efforts of the administrative staff in cat owner engagement, 1721 of the original cats remain enrolled in the study.

You will contribute to this on-going study, working alongside the Research Administrator to provide administrative support to the project lead. Specifically, you will be responsible for overseeing data collection, monitoring questionnaire completion figures, preparing summary data and disseminating outputs for the project. In addition to general office duties, other responsibilities will include updating website content; contacting veterinary practices to obtain client records; dealing with enquiries from study participants, students and researchers; cataloguing and storing biological samples; and assisting with research report preparation.

You should have experience in a similar academic administrative role; an understanding of research methods; be able to work independently, as well as part of a team; have excellent communication and organisational skills; and have experience of using the Mailchimp platform and Excel databases.
