Livestock Welfare Scientist (Full-time permanent)

The Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) is currently looking to for a researcher to expand its Animal Welfare Research Team, which currently consists of several researchers and PhD students and conducts scientific research on the welfare of all farm animal species. The team is part of AFBI's livestock production sciences branch, which is located in Hillsborough, Northern Ireland.

The successful candidate will conduct research on multiple aspects of animal welfare (e.g., behaviour, health, physiology) across the main farmed livestock species. This will also include disseminating the results of this research through scientific and popular articles and presentations, participating in the acquisition of project funding and collaborating with academic and industry partners within and outside of AFBI.

The first project the successful candidate will be assigned to is likely one on the use of thermography to detect welfare problems in dairy cows.

Salary: £31,137 - £32,800
