Senior Portfolio Manager

Sitting within the BBSRC’s Research Strategy and Programmes (RSP) domain, the BBSRC Research Infrastructures Team ensures bioscience research and innovation has access to appropriate infrastructure to enable their research by monitoring the landscape, developing strategy and making cases for the infrastructures that the community needs.
Within this context, examples of research infrastructures include:

Essential bioinformatics such as databases, and the hardware that supports them
Biological resources such as germplasm and seed collections
State-of-the-art instrumentation and facilities such as high-throughput ‘omics platforms, advanced light and electron microscopy, mass spectrometry
Large scale national infrastructures such as the Diamond Light Source or national supercomputers
The Research Infrastructures Team is also involved in managing BBSRC involvement in relevant European infrastructure programmes, in particular EMPHASIS, Euro-Biolmaging and ELIXIR.

With the publication of the UKRI Infrastructure Programme report “The UK’s Research and Innovation infrastructure: Opportunities to grow our capability” the focus on this area has increased, and BBSRC is recruiting a Senior Portfolio Manager to supplement the existing team. This is a fixed term position for 12 months.

This role is aimed mostly at postdoctoral level candidates, though particularly well placed PhD graduate might want to apply This is the most senior grade that does not by default include team leadership.

Salary: £39,748
