Ethical aspects of automation and digitalization in livestock farming

Date: 10/12/2020

Digital technologies are drastically changing the way our food is produced. Increasingly complex processes are being automated and farm management software, offering monitoring and decision support, is gaining importance. This development is not limited to large-scale farming operations, but also takes place in mid-sized, family-run farms in Austria.

Which changes will these developments bring along? How should these changes be evaluated from an ethical perspective? Now it’s the time for shaping the future trajectory of digitalized agriculture. We thus aim to identify the ethical questions stakeholders should ask themselves.
