The Ninth Annual Meeting of the Animal Welfare Research Network took place from 9th to 11th September 2025.
Location of meeting
The Ninth Annual Meeting of AWRN was held in the beautiful and welcoming setting of The Engineers House in Bristol and was attended by 130 delegates.
Theme of meeting
The theme of the meeting was “New Frontiers in Animal Welfare Science“, focusing both on novel research in animal welfare science and new areas which can be explored. In addition, there was a highlighted topic of “Wild Animal Welfare”. This section of the meeting was co-organised by Wild Animal Initiative and included some fantastic plenary talks from Maria Diez Leon (Royal Veterinary College) and Liz Mullineaux (President of BVA) on their work on Wild Animal Welfare. Our Early Career Researcher Plenary was given by Miriam Zemanova (University of Fribourg) who talked about how welfare needs to be included in conservation research. The final plenary of the meeting was by Dan O’Neill (Royal Veterinary College) who described the impacts of extreme body conformations in dogs and their work to decrease their occurrence.
