What is AWRN Workshop Funding?

 

- Opportunity to apply for up to £3,000 to run a workshop.

- You propose the topic, venue, format and speakers. 

- You can decide whether to charge an attendance fee to cover additional costs. 

- We will fund around three workshops. At least one will specifically support our Early Career Researcher community. 

- You then organise the workshop with AWRN support and advertising.

- The deadline for submissions is Friday 25th September 2026

- Workshops will typically need to run before the end of September 2027. 


Why Apply?

 

- Receive funding to get people together to discuss a topic of your choice!

- Opportunity to invite researchers and / or stakeholders to collaborate or to gain training in a specific skill.

- Experience in event planning - support is available with all aspects of the organisation, so this is a great way to learn about event management.

- You could potentially gather evidence for a future funding proposal.  


Who can apply?

 

- Main applicants must have been a member of the AWRN for at least 6 months. 

- International members can apply for this funding, but no more than one international workshop can be funded per year. 

- Early Career Researchers are eligible to apply for this funding. 

- Collaborative applications are particularly encouraged. 


What topics are suitable?

 

- Training in specific research skills, .

- Discussion of key research topics, especially if engaging with industry or stakeholders.

- Developing links with novel research fields.

- Launch of Working Group in a particular topic. 


How to apply

 

- Applications for funding should be made by completing this application form online

- The deadline to apply is 5pm on Friday 25th September 2026. Applications received after this date will not be considered.

- Please note all applications should be made using the online form, the PDF is purely for information. 


How will applications be assessed? 

 

- All submissions will be redacted so assessors will be blind to applicant names. 

- A panel of the AWRN Co-ordinating Group, ECR Committee and Stakeholder Advisory Board will assess applications. 

- Assessment criteria are:

               - The extent to which the workshop meets the Network Aims         

               - How timely the workshop is

               - Level of participation for AWRN members

               - Value for money

               - Outcomes that will be produced 

- The panel will review applications and meet in October to select workshops for funding. 

- Applicants will be notified by end of October 2026 at the latest.
